Welcome my super-special Photography II geniuses!
Course Overview
This course is designed for the serious and capable photography student who may be interested in pursuing photography as a career, lifelong hobby or pursuing Photography in college. Students will be introduced to advanced principals of digital imaging. Individualized instruction and projects that are self-paced will be offered. The overall emphasis is to allow self-direction and independent expression through the mediums, techniques, and concepts previously learned, as well as the opportunity to investigate artistic mediums not yet explored. It should be emphasized that the Photo II student will be working more independently, with more effort and responsibility.
Expectations
Portfolios:
Each student will work on a portfolio. That is 24 phenomenal, show-worthy photographs. Not mediocre, "I kinda like it" photos, but instead 24 "Look how awesome my photo turned out!" photos.
Class Rules:
DO NOT, under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, submit old photos for ANY assignment! Grrrrrr.... this is my biggest pet peeve and greatest insult. You get credit for photos you take during the time you are in my class. You do not get credit for photos taken over summer break, last winter, in middle school, or even a week before the class started. PLEASE DON'T DO IT, I WILL NOTICE AND I WILL NOT BE HAPPY.
Bring your camera, netbook/laptop, positive attitude and willingness to participate to class every day.
Additionals:
1. I try my best to remain open, honest, fair, enthusiastic about your learning and passionate about my teaching.
2. I have high expectations. Only because I know what human beings are capable of and I love to see the excitement in your eyes when you achieve more than you thought you could. I expect you to do better than you thought you could. It's too obvious and depressing when you have failed yourself.
3. I respect my profession and have a passion for teaching and learning. Photography makes me happy. I expect you to respect #3.
4. I will often give praise, encouragement and criticism. All are given to help you learn and to become a better being. I expect you to do the same.
5. I will call on you to share your work, opinions or answers to questions. It is expected that you respond and communicate your thoughts with the rest of the class.
6. I am responsible for all of you. If you need to leave the room, I need to know. If you come in late, it is your responsibility to let me know.
7. All assignments should be turned in on time. Projects can be re-worked for a better grade. Late work is accepted with a maximum of 10 points deducted. Failing a photo shoot assignment is not acceptable.
8. Come to class ready to work. This includes a charged netbook, charged camera with batteries and SD card and a charged brain.
9. Everything I teach you has a purpose. All lessons are meant to improve the way you see, respond, and manipulate your world through photography. I expect you to appreciate and understand the value in every lesson.
10. I expect you to be respectful of others. This includes when they are talking or when they are sharing their photographs. Side conversations, using your netbook, texting or ignoring the presenter is distracting and rude.
11. Be honest. Plagiarism, breaking promises and making excuses will never help you. Be honest with yourself, your classmates and me. We will all respect you for your honesty. It is very challenging to convince someone to trust you after it has been lost. Please do not abuse our class privileges and do not lose my trust. You will not like this class once that happens.
Please let me know if I am not following any of the above "additional expectations" or if you feel I have been unfair in any way. We are a community of learners and pretty cool human beings. I need to have the same expectations for all, including for myself, your teacher.
