Expectations:
1. I try my best to remain open, honest, fair, enthusiastic about your learning and passionate about my teaching.
2. I have high expectations. Only because I know what human beings are capable of and I love to see the excitement in your eyes when you achieve more than you thought you could. I expect you to do better than you thought you could. It's too obvious and depressing when you have failed yourself.
3. I respect my profession and have a passion for teaching and learning. Photography makes me happy. I expect you to respect #3.
4. I will often give praise, encouragement and criticism. All are given to help you learn and to become a better being. I expect you to do the same.
5. I will call on you to share your work, opinions or answers to questions. It is expected that you respond and communicate your thoughts with the rest of the class.
6. I am responsible for all of you. If you need to leave the room, I need to know. If you come in late, it is your responsibility to let me know.
7. All assignments should be turned in on time. Projects can be re-worked for a better grade. Critiques are graded and if missed, critiques cannot be made up. Critiques will only be excused if you had an excused absence. Failing a photo shoot assignment is not acceptable.
8. Come to class ready to work. This includes a charged chromebook, charged camera with batteries and SD card and a charged brain.
9. Everything I teach you has a purpose. All lessons are meant to improve the way you see, respond, and manipulate your world through photography. I expect you to appreciate and understand the value in every lesson.
10. I expect you to be respectful of others. This includes when they are talking or when they are sharing their photographs. Side conversations, using your netbook, texting or ignoring the presenter is distracting and rude.
11. Be honest. Plagiarism, breaking promises and making excuses will never help you. Be honest with yourself, your classmates and me. Turning in old photos, someone else's photos or any photos not taken exclusively for the current assignment will be treated as cheating and appropriate action will be taken. We will all respect you for your honesty. It is very challenging to convince someone to trust you after it has been lost. Please do not abuse our class privileges and do not lose my trust. You will not like this class once that happens.
Assignments & Grading:
1. You will almost always be given a shooting assignment approx. one week before it is due. It will almost always be due on a Monday when you walk in the door. Being prepared and ready for critique on Mondays will be graded, Critiques are a credit/no credit grade and CANNOT BE MADE UP. Excused absences will be exempt from the critique only.
2. You will almost always be given classwork that supports your shooting assignment. Participation will be graded.
3. You will ALWAYS need to edit your photographs before submitting for a grade. There will be class time dedicated to learning and applying editing techniques.
4. Every shooting assignment needs to be turned in via Google Classroom. Assignments submitted in any other way are accepted but needs to be discussed with teacher prior.
5. EXTRA CREDIT may be granted for work done above and beyond the assigned photo shoots. I will try to offer at least ONE extra credit opportunity each quarter. Speak with me before assuming you will receive extra credit for a shoot.
6. Communication is key. If you are confused, talk to me. If you are stressed about something in your life and it is affecting your schoolwork, talk to me. I am pretty flexible for those who communicate. I am not flexible for those who do not communicate. I am here to help you succeed, but you MUST advocate for yourself.
(you ALWAYS have the opportunity to rework or resubmit an assignment for improvement, just ask.)
